Wrestler, harpist and innkeeper

A giantess named Marged ferch Ifan (Marged daughter of Ifan) was an innkeeper at the Telyrniau Inn, Drws-y-Coed. She married a timid man called Richard, and there are countless stories about their turbulent relationship. She was extraordinarily talented, earning a reputation as a harpist, wrestler, blacksmith and carpenter!

Marged ferried copper on the lakes of Llyn Padarn and Llyn Peris and became known as the ‘Queen of the Lakes’.

She is said to be buried beneath the altar at Nant Peris Church, a testament to her reputation.
