What made you volunteer for the National Park?

Over the years I’ve spent a lot of time enjoying the National Park with family and friends and thought that I’d like to give something back. Volunteering was the natural choice and a win for everyone – I get to spend more time in the Park and, at the same time, I’m leaving the Park in a better state than when I arrived.

How does volunteering in Snowdonia make you feel?

I always feel great after a shift. Fresh air, being in the company of great people and something positive to show for our efforts (even if if has been raining the whole time!)

Has anything interesting or memorable happened during your volunteering experience?

Every time I go out as a volunteer there is something interesting or memorable. It could be a conversation with a visitor or their appreciation of what we do. Seeing the wildlife or learning something new about the National Park—either from other volunteers or staff (about flora, fauna, geology, history or just a funny story about something that happened to them).

Why would you recommend volunteering to other people?

For anyone interested in the outdoors, the National Park and has some spare time on their hands—it’s a no-brainer. Where else do you get a ready-made excuse to indulge in a bit of outdoor activity with a friendly bunch of likeminded people and do something constructive?
