In the heart of Eryri, there is a group of dedicated individuals who have made a significant impact on our beloved National Park this visitor season. The Caru Eryri volunteers’ commitment to the scheme, has been invaluable in keeping our footpaths pristinely clean and maintained, and our visitors safe and well-informed.
As we bid farewell to another busy visitor season, we reflect on the incredible work carried out by Caru Eryri volunteers throughout 2023. Their mission, to provide a welcoming and informative presence in popular areas and paths on Yr Wyddfa and other cherished areas within Eryri, has been nothing short of exceptional.
The incredible work that has been achieved is all thanks to the efforts of 153 passionate volunteers, who regularly give their time to looking after Eryri. Together they have contributed 1641 hours towards the scheme in 2023, collecting a total of 479.5 bags of litter, weighing a staggering 1,180.75 kilograms. The volunteers have also been a massive support to the National Park Authority Wardens, by supporting their work in maintaining 28 kilometres of footpaths to prevent further erosion. Their devotion to helping keep Eryri exceptional for everyone to enjoy is inspiring, and we are profoundly grateful for their dedication.
As a final litter pick to bring the scheme to a close for another season, the Caru Eryri group recently took on the monumental ‘Real 3 Peaks Challenge,’ a coordinated effort to “deep clean” the three highest peaks of Scotland, England, and Wales. This ambitious challenge yielded the following results:
Real 3 Peaks Challenge: 3 Routes Total including Llanberis Path, Watkin Path and the PYG and Miners Track.
Plastic Bottles collected: 489
Total Litter Weight: 101kg

These statistics demonstrate the group’s determination to go above and beyond in their conservation efforts which is having an obvious positive impact on the natural environment of this beautiful and special area.
With the change of the seasons, we look towards the next season of conservation work, with opportunities to plant trees in some of the most beautiful places in Wales, gorse clearance on the Carneddau and many more activities to get involved with. We look forward to welcoming back our Caru Eryri volunteers next season and new faces too.
