This accessible boardwalk is situated at the western shore of Llyn Cwellyn near the village of Rhyd Ddu.
The boardwalk will lead you through a small woodland to the lake’s shore, where you can expect striking views of Llyn Cwellyn, Mynydd Mawr and Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon).
The Llyn Cwellyn Boardwalk is the perfect place for a peaceful picnic and to indulge in some of Eryri’s defining attractions—its soaring mountain peaks and far-reaching lakes.
The boardwalk is easily accessible from the nearby car park and offers accessible picnic benches.

The National Park Authority has categorised the route as an ‘Easy – Access for All’ route. This means that the route is suitable for people of all abilities, including those with conventional wheelchairs and pushchairs. The terrain is predominantly flat and even with no steps or steep sections.

An accessible toilet is located at the car park but is open seasonally. Two accessible picnic tables are situated at viewpoints along the boardwalk.
The National Park Authority has categorised this route as an Access for All route, which is suitable for Tramper style mobility scooters. Trampers are specially-designed, all-terrain mobility scooters that allow people with difficulty walking to access some of the National Park’s most fantastic areas.

Llyn Cwellyn is a 120ft deep reservoir near the village of Rhyd Ddu. It supplies drinking water to parts of Gwynedd and Anglesey. On its eastern shore are the foothills of Mynydd Mawr, an area that is now considered a nature reserve. Moel Eilio rises to the west.
A stone’s throw to the south from Llyn Cwellyn is the small village of Rhyd Ddu. Lôn Gwyrfai, another route promoted by the National Park Authority, can be accessed from the village. The route is another fantastic accessible path in the National Park that stretches all the way to Beddgelert.
To the north of Llyn Cwellyn, along the foothills of Moel Eilio, runs the Welsh Highland Railway. This narrow-gauge heritage railway operates between Caernarfon and Porthmadog and offers some of the best views in Snowdonia.
